Erfurt (dpa / th) - After schools and daycare centers were closed for weeks in the corona lockdown, Thuringia wants to reopen the first educational institutions for a larger number of children and young people from next Monday.

"All pupils need the way back to school, need teachers, need contact with one another, togetherness and to have fun and joy - despite all the restrictions that still have to exist," said Thuringia's Education Minister Helmut Holter ( Left) on Tuesday after the cabinet had deliberated on a new corona regulation.

Schools and kindergartens in Thuringia have been closed to most children and young people since December 21.

Most recently, however, pupils in the final year were allowed to go to schools.

Also this time the rules for emergency care were not as strict as in the first lockdown in March 2020, so that the share of children in emergency care was sometimes more than 40 percent.

According to Holter, the primary schools and kindergartens should first open from next Monday and work in restricted regular operations (yellow level).

This means that emergency care is not required for these groups.

Children in primary schools (grades one to four) should be looked after and taught in fixed groups.

"All the children go back to school every day," said Holter.

However, there is no obligation to do so.

Parents can decide for themselves whether or not to send their children to school.

A week later, grades five and six are due to return to schools on March 1st.

According to Holter, it is possible here to teach in fixed groups or alternate lessons to be introduced in order to allow greater distance between the students in the rooms.

That should be decided by the school principal.

Students from the seventh grade should also be able to return to schools from March 1st.

The condition for this is that there were fewer than 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days in the respective region.

Here, too, lessons can be held in fixed groups or alternating at a greater distance.
