Bochum (dpa) - The gas station industry leader Aral wants to expand its network of high-speed charging stations for electric cars faster than planned.

By the end of the year there should be 500 ultra-fast charging points with an output of up to 350 kilowatts across Germany, Aral announced on Tuesday.

The ultra charging stations should be found at 120 filling stations.

Provided that the appropriate battery technology is available, a vehicle can receive electricity from the ultra-fast charging station within ten minutes for a range of up to 350 kilometers.

Charging goes about as fast as filling up at the gas pump.

«Our e-offer is picking up speed.

We're going to quintuple the number of our charging points this year, ”reported Aral board member Patrick Wendeler.

By the end of February, Aral wants to have around 100 charging points with an output of up to 300 or 350 kilowatts at 25 filling stations in-house.

Aral has around 2,400 filling stations in Germany.

The filling station operator has combined its activities in e-mobility under the new name “Aral pulse”.

Last week, the federal government launched a draft law aimed at promoting the development of a fast charging network.

1000 “fast charging hubs”, each with several charging points, are planned by 2023. The stations should have an output of over 150 kilowatts.

According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, there are currently around 800 charging points over 150 kilowatts, around 2.4 percent of all publicly accessible charging points.
