Anklam / Rostock / Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The heavy snowfall since Monday evening has barely led to any significant traffic obstructions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

As police spokespersons in Rostock and Neubrandenburg said on Tuesday, there were around 20 accidents across the country, but they remained with sheet metal damage.

From Monday evening to Tuesday morning, up to 15 centimeters of fresh snow fell regionally differently, but sometimes it piled even higher due to drifts.

The only obstacles were on federal highway 109 north of Anklam, where a car slipped off the road at the Groß Kiesow junction.

A car also came off the road on Bundesstraße 199 near Albinshof (Vorpommern-Greifswald).

Fire brigades had to rush to the aid of several car and truck drivers near Bentwisch near Rostock because they got stuck in the snow on Monday evening.

According to the police, the operation lasted around three hours.

In the morning, traffic on the autobahns ran smoothly.

Only on the A24 Berlin-Hamburg motorists were warned to be careful, as truck parts were lying on the road between Suckow (Ludwigslust-Parchim) and Putlitz in Brandenburg.

After the railway accident on Monday near Altheide (Western Pomerania-Rügen), the Rostock-Stralsund railway line remained closed.

Here a regional train derailed after a collision with a truck trailer that was stuck at a level crossing.

Four people, including the train driver, were slightly injured.

The multiple unit should be recovered on Tuesday.
