The Turkish Ministry of Defense said yesterday that the aim of the new military operation in northern Iraq is to respond to terrorist attacks and ensure the security of Turkey's borders.

In the summer of last year, Turkey carried out the "First Eagle Claw" operation, which included intensive air strikes on PKK targets in Sinjar, Qarjik, Qandil, Zab, Afshin Basyan and Hacork (northern Iraq).
