WHO = World Health Organization announced that it has added a new coronavirus vaccine developed by pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and others to its list of emergency use.

This allowed it to be supplied within an international distribution framework, and WHO called for cooperation in increasing production.

WHO Secretary-General Tedros announced at a press conference on Wednesday that vaccines developed by British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and others have been added to the list of emergency uses.

This is the second case following the vaccine developed by Pfizer, a major pharmaceutical company in the United States, and all of them will be able to be supplied under the "COVAX Facility", a framework for fair distribution of vaccines internationally.

The framework relies on vaccines developed by AstraZeneca and others for most of its supply in the first half of the year, and Secretary-General Tedros said, "We are ready to distribute the vaccine quickly, but we need to increase production further." We called for cooperation in increasing production for prompt supply.

However, the South African government has indicated that early clinical trials on this vaccine may be less effective in preventing mild to moderate symptoms against the mutant virus identified in South Africa. ..

"There is no evidence that there is a significant change in the effectiveness of this vaccine," O'Brien, who oversees vaccination at WHO, said at a press conference that supply should be promoted.
