Göppingen (dpa / lsw) - The police in Baden-Württemberg will in future receive support in the event of raids or house searches.

Specially trained police dogs are supposed to sniff out hidden cash.

Six animals took part in a corresponding pilot project and have been able to call themselves banknote detection dogs since Friday.

They are the first police dogs in Baden-Württemberg to have this special training, as the police in Göppingen announced on Monday.

The course lasted ten days, in which dogs from the police headquarters in Freiburg, Ludwigsburg, Mannheim, Offenburg, Ravensburg and Ulm participated with their respective dog handlers.

The animals also had previous training to become a drug sniffer dog.

The pilot phase runs for one year.

It will then be decided whether banknote detection dogs should be used at all regional police headquarters.
