Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - The criminal police arrested four alleged members of a smuggler gang in Central Franconia.

The young men between 19 and 23 years of age are suspected of having organized the illegal transport of Syrian refugees from Austria to Germany, the police said on Monday.

Since November, the Nuremberg police had followed up on the relevant information and worked with the Passau Federal Police and Austrian colleagues.

Last Thursday, according to the police, four apartments in Nuremberg and in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen were searched.

In an approximately 40 square meter apartment in Nuremberg, the emergency services found eleven people who are said to have been illegally smuggled into Germany.

In one of those found there, the suspicion has already been confirmed.

The district court of Ansbach has issued arrest warrants against the four alleged smugglers.

According to the police, you are now in custody.
