Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The North Rhine-Westphalian state government sees no reason to declare Easter holidays to be impossible due to the corona.

“I think the debate is premature,” said Deputy Prime Minister Joachim Stamp (FDP) on Monday at the request of the German Press Agency in Düsseldorf.

"Whether and how we can take steps towards normality in Germany depends on various factors."

In particular, this includes the question of when certified self-tests will be available to everyone.

“It is still important that everyone continues to adhere to the current rules in order to contain the pandemic,” said Stamp.

"But clear perspectives must also be created so that light can finally be seen at the end of the tunnel."

NRW initially only extended the Corona Protection Ordinance with its numerous restrictions on the weekend by one week.

When asked whether the FDP had insisted on this short corridor in order to enable faster opening steps, FDP country chief Stamp replied: "We in the coalition have a common understanding of proceeding in comprehensible steps."

Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) also expressed his wait and see on the question of Easter leave.

After all, there are still 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter, he said during a visit to Bayer AG in Wuppertal.

That is why he does not want to speculate now, but rather concentrate all his efforts on reducing the new infection rate below 50, calculated for 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

"If the development continues like this, it could be ready in the next few days."

He believes “that if we go step by step, we will be better served”.

Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) said in the "Bild am Sonntag": "I am in favor of speaking truths: Unfortunately, there can be no Easter holiday in Germany this year."

Too much mobility in April is poison.

"We would destroy everything that we have achieved since mid-December."

Many had criticized this as premature - including Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and the Hotel and Restaurant Association.

The opposition leader in the NRW state parliament, Thomas Kutschaty (SDP), also told the WAZ: “I consider such determinations to be wrong.

At the moment the numbers are moving in the right direction.

Why should we lose all hope now? "
