Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The psychological stress of working people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania increased significantly in the past year according to the assessment of the KKH health insurance company.

In the past year, employees insured with the KKH in the northeast were on sick leave for an average of 39.7 days due to depression, chronic exhaustion and similar illnesses, as the health insurance company announced on Monday.

That is four days more than in 2019, for men even 5.1 days more.

Across Germany, the duration of illness due to mental illness was 43.7 days in the past year - 4.2 days more than in 2019. According to this, doctors most frequently diagnosed depressive disorders, reactions to severe stress and adjustment disorders, as well as chronic exhaustion and anxiety disorders.

"We cannot tell from the numbers whether the increased absenteeism is directly related to the Corona crisis," said KKH business psychologist Antje Judick.

Isolation and quarantine measures as well as the associated changes in everyday professional and private life left their mark in any case.

Many working people are still under constant stress due to a lack of childcare, caring for relatives in need, loneliness.

Fears of existence due to short-time work, bankruptcy and job loss are also burdens.

In addition, dealing with the previously unknown situation often creates uncertainty.
