Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, in Tehran.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry quoted the Qatari minister as saying that his country is ready to play an influential role in the framework of regional cooperation, with the aim of settling the outstanding issues.

He added that the region needs a new approach focusing on regional cooperation, as he put it, stressing the strengthening of bilateral relations and joint cooperation in various fields between the two countries.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister said that his country affirms the necessity of joint regional cooperation to resolve the outstanding issues in the region, and that Qatari-Iranian relations play an important role in this regard.

He added, during the meeting of the two countries' delegations, that Tehran welcomes the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields, and commends the steps taken by Doha to break the blockade imposed on it, as he put it.

The Qatari foreign minister had called, in a dialogue with an American media channel, for the GCC countries to enter into a dialogue with Tehran, and declared his country’s readiness to hold a meeting between the six states of the Council and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister welcomed in a tweet on "Twitter" the proposal for dialogue between Iran and the Gulf states.

A few days ago, Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani - during his meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşolu in Qatar - said that Doha and Ankara encourage Washington and Tehran to engage again in solving the nuclear file crisis by diplomatic means.
