At the same time as polling stations are closing in Catalonia, an opinion poll by Spanish TV3 has been published which shows that the two separatist parties Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) and Junts per Catalunya (Junts) together can reach over half of the seats in the Catalan parliament.

According to the survey, the ERC gets between 36 and 38 seats, while the Junts, which was formed by the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, get between 30 and 33 seats.

Achieving one's own majority requires 68 seats in parliament, which has 135 seats.

At the same time, the Social Democratic PSC, a subsidiary of the Spanish ruling party PSOE, hopes to attract the ERC to form a governing left-wing coalition instead.

The PSC, backed by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, has made a successful election and looks set to win 34-36 seats, doubling from the last election when it reached 17 seats.
