Berlin (dpa) - Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer has confirmed that the entry rules that will apply from Sunday will be strictly controlled.

"Those who do not belong to one of the few exceptions cannot enter," said the CSU politician of "Bild am Sonntag".

He expects delays.

“The controls can lead to waiting times here and there.

The federal police will not just wave the traffic through. "

However, it was discussed with the Federal Police to carry out the controls adapted to the situation in order to avoid major backlogs.

Entrants would have to present a negative corona test.

That also applies to all truck drivers, it said.

Stricter entry rules come into force on Sunday night at the borders with the Czech Republic and the Austrian state of Tyrol.

For fear of the more contagious variants of the corona virus that are widespread there, strict controls are carried out at the corresponding border crossings in Bavaria and Saxony.

According to a regulation by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, only Germans and foreigners with a residence and residence permit in Germany are allowed to enter the affected areas.

There are exceptions for doctors, nurses and geriatric nurses as well as for truck drivers and seasonal agricultural workers.
