Pristina (AP) - The left-wing movement Vetevendosje (self-determination) clearly won the parliamentary elections in Kosovo after an election day poll.

Accordingly, they united 42 percent of the votes, as the Pipos Institute announced on Sunday after the polling stations closed at 7 p.m.

The long-standing ruling party PDK (Democratic Party of Kosovo) received 16.5 percent of the vote, the most recently ruling conservative LDK (Democratic League of Kosovo) received 15 percent.

At the head of Vetevendosje is the former short-term prime minister Albin Kurti, whom the electoral commission had struck off his movement's list of candidates for a criminal record.

He still wants to become prime minister, but will have to rely on partners in the new parliament.

Kurti was head of government from February to June 2020 before the LDK left the coalition with Vetevendosje and joined forces with other partners.

The LDK politician Avdullah Hoti replaced Kurti.

His election in parliament was not legitimate, as the Constitutional Court subsequently found.

That is why the third early parliamentary election in four years took place on Sunday.
