Rotterdam (AP) - The German water polo players start their qualifying tournament for the Olympics in Tokyo on Sunday in the Netherlands.

The team of national coach Hagen Stamm will be challenged against the hosts at the start in Rotterdam with twelve nations at 4 p.m.

"We have to take them from the paper form," said Stamm.

Three starting places for the games planned for the summer in Tokyo are still available.

The selection of the German Swimming Association is not one of the top favorites.

Should the team make it to Japan, it would be the first Olympic participation since 2008.
