Mahmoud Al-Tayeb prepares his pieces of goat, beef and chicken.

Butcher for six years in the central market of El Fasher, he is affected like everyone else by the soaring prices.

Animals are sold more and more expensive.

So I increase my prices.

In a few years we went from 60 to 900 pounds per kilo.

The revolution changed nothing.

The economic situation was even better before.

I think the government has failed.

The authorities make promises but we do not see anything coming,

 ”he laments.

Save, at all costs

In the meantime, everyone is managing.

Nemat Abdou Maadane went to sell bread on the black market.

“

I buy a loaf for 15 pounds and sell it for 20. The bakers don't mind but they sell me limited quantities, no more than 1000 pounds.

My husband is a soldier.

A salary is no longer enough.

So I need to bring more money to pay for school or medicine.

 "

All means are also good to save money.

In the river that crosses El Fasher, Sudanese like Abdouyoun Mohamed Ismaël collect sand to make bricks.

We make them using old techniques.

The sand is mixed with mud and water.

In a few hours it dries.

It's popular because it's simple and costs a lot less.

 "

Following the October peace agreement, a new government has just been appointed, with perhaps hope for change for the region.

Former Darfuri rebel leader Djibril Ibrahim is now Minister of Finance.

He promised to fight inflation and shortages.
