Steinhude (dpa / lni) - The frozen Steinhuder Meer attracted hundreds of visitors at the weekend.

Already at sunrise on Sunday some early risers romped about on the ice at Steinhude.

The route to Wilhelmstein Island was particularly popular.

Parents pulled their offspring across the frozen sea on sleds, and athletes were even on the ice rink on mountain bikes.

The police, fire brigade and DLRG were on site.

However, the authorities warned against stepping onto the ice surface of the lake.

The ice cover on the Steinhuder Meer is not sustainable.

On Saturday alone, the police were on the water for around eight hours to pay attention to the corona distance rules, among other things.

A spokeswoman for the Hanover police said on Sunday, especially families with children and older couples were on the ice rink.

Around noon, almost 450 people were on the Steinhuder Meer, but the minimum distances were mostly observed.

Around 60 percent of the parking spaces were occupied.
