For Germany and the United Kingdom, the response to Covid-19 remains the lockdown, at least until early March.

The two countries choose the hard line above all for the variants of the virus that cause the number of infections to run.

A lockdown similar to our red zone, but not as hard as the Italian one last spring.

Germany also locks the borders with a further tightening on the borders with the Czech Republic and the Austrian Tyrol.

A measure that does not exclude introducing also with the French region of Moselle.

A choice not shared by the European Commission, which would not want to go back to border closures like last year and would like to avoid the initiatives of individual states.

Germany responds to the criticism by accusing the Commission of mishandling the vaccination campaign.

The measures in Germany

There have been severe restrictions in the country for over two months and the government wants to proceed with the anticovid measures until 7 March.

Among the measures there is no mention of a generalized curfew, private meetings allowed, but limited to family members, to which another person can be added.

Yes also to religious ceremonies.

In areas with a particular incidence of cases, it may be imposed or advised not to travel more than 15 kilometers from home.

Lock the doors of shops and services deemed non-essential.

Most of the schools closed, which should gradually reopen from 22 February.

Measures in the United Kingdom

In the State, infections are decreasing and vaccinations are increasing, 15 million have been exceeded.

The lockdown has been underway since the beginning of January and the Conservative party is calling on the government to lift it in early March.

There is no absolute ban on leaving the house, there are many exceptions: from essential purchases to meetings with the closest circle of acquaintances.

It is possible to go to religious ceremonies and exercise.

While schools remained open for the most vulnerable children and the children of essential workers.

Playgrounds are also open.

Czech Republic, Austria and Poland

In the Czech Republic, three cantons, two of which on the border with Germany, are in lockdown.

While in Austria anyone who leaves the Tyrol must produce a negative test after the outbreak of cases of the South African variant.

A different climate in Poland where hotels, museums, cinemas, theaters and swimming pools have been reopened and over the weekend a crowd of citizens storming the ski resorts.
