In Chad, what future for the Alliance Victoire after the announcement of Saleh Kebzabo's withdrawal from his party, the National Union for Democracy and Renewal (UNRD)?

Maître Théophile Bongoro

was appointed last Tuesday by the Alliance Victoire to be the sole candidate for the Chadian presidential election on April 11, 2021. He will therefore represent the union of 16 parties, to the detriment of the historical opponent Saleh Kebzabo.

For François Djekombé, spokesperson for the Alliance Victoire, contacted by

RFI

, the announcement of Saleh Kebzabo's withdrawal from the UNDR is not an obstacle to moving forward.

“This does not compromise the chances of the Alliance Victory at all.

We readily admit that Mr. Kebzabo is a heavyweight in the opposition, but as far as we are concerned, the 15 parties that have remained have remained united

, he said.

We are going to focus on the essential, namely to prepare a very good campaign for the Alliance candidate who is Maître Théophile Bongoro.

Outside of the Victory Alliance, there are several candidates who have come forward lonely.

So the Chadian opposition has always been divided

 ”

.

Conflict with Saleh Kebzabo

"

Unfortunately, we will not be able to bring it together today but even if today, we are going in dispersed ranks, it is the first time, in the political history of Chad, that sixteen parties can nominate a candidate

," continues François. Djekombe.

So we will go all the way to be able to present our candidate and his project to the presidential election of April 11, 2021 ”.

Saleh Kebzabo now claims that the vote to appoint Théophile Bongoro has been bought and that it is a maneuver by the ruling party.

The Victory Alliance refutes these accusations and says it is ready to go to court so that Saleh Kebzabo presents the evidence he claims to hold.
