Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Education and Science Union (GEW) has been critical of the planned easing of the corona measures for daycare centers and schools in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The state chairmen Annett Lindner and Maik Walm announced on Saturday that openings adapted to the infection process are generally welcome.

But: “We do not consider face-to-face operations for grades 1 to 6 as well as the final grades of general and vocational schools with an incidence value below 50 - just like regular operation in the after-school care center - to be inadequate in view of the open question of the risk of mutations. »

The GEW relies on the brand of a 35 incidence recommended by the Robert Koch Institute.

After consultations with representatives of trade unions, municipalities and business, the state government announced on Friday evening that students in grades 1 to 6 will be able to go to school again regularly from February 24th in districts and urban cities where the incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, is stable below 50.

From March 8th on, pupils in the higher grades will gradually return to the schools, initially alternating between face-to-face teaching and learning at home.

The GEW advocated a step-by-step transition to regular operation with alternating instruction, initially in halved learning groups, as this would increase health protection, improve individual support, reduce school traffic and reduce workload.

"So far, the inadequate strategy has consisted of wearing masks without occupational safety standards, ventilation in winter and a lack of measures to support children with learning problems," criticized Lindner and Walm.

In addition to distance options, ventilation devices and unprompted tests, they also called for prioritized vaccinations for educational staff.
