13 February 2021 Italy caught in the grip of frost. Avalanche in Sella Nevea in Friuli, one dead


A man died, overwhelmed by a valnga in Sella Nevea (Udine).

He is a Slovenian citizen.

Avalanches in the Apennines, one dead and five recovered

This is the situation after the two avalanches that broke off in the morning, almost simultaneously, from the slopes of Monte Giovo, above Lago Santo, in the Modenese Apennines and Monte Cusna, in the province of Reggio Emilia.

In the first case, one person died, while the other two were hospitalized as a precaution, in fair health conditions.

On the Cusna three people were joined by the Alpine Rescue, Carabinieri and Fire Brigade teams.

Conscious it seems they have not reported trauma.

However, investigations continue to verify that there are no other people. 



A hiker who died in Cadore


A hiker who died in the Casera Spinoncia area, in Cadore, in the Belluno area.

The man died falling into a canal after slipping on ice.

The victim's travel companion alerted the rescue.

From the first information, the two were walking the Rommel trail.

When the man left the itinerary, in an attempt to take an object that had fallen to him, he lost his balance by sliding on the ice and falling, without his friend being able to see or hear him anymore.



Maxi rear-end collision on Turin Bardonecchia, two dead and dozens of injured


Thirty-two people were injured in a maxi rear-end collision that took place this morning on the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway, which also caused two deaths. Twenty-five vehicles involved.

The accident, probably caused by the presence of ice on the carriageway, occurred at the entrance to the Serre la Voute tunnel, between Exilles and Salbertrand.



In South Tyrol - 24.4 al Predoi

In the mountains, the lowest temperature recorded is -22.2 at the 3,399 meters of the forerunner of Cima Libera in Val Ridanna.

Orange code in Tuscany


A weekend with Siberian temperatures also in Tuscany characterized by snow and freezing winds.

The Operations Room of the Regional Civil Protection has issued an orange code for snow that affects almost the entire territory until this afternoon and three yellow codes for ice, wind and storms until tomorrow.

In Florence, the situation was under control even if the snow this morning also whitened the fields on the outskirts of the city.

The wave of frost is accompanied by the strong wind that last night caused the fall of some trees but without particular criticalities in the metropolitan area.

In view of the polar climate, the Municipality of Florence has strengthened the winter reception service for the homeless, increasing the number of beds up to 150 and doubling the outputs of the street unit.



Snow in Irpinia


Since last night a heavy snowfall has been affecting the provinces of Avellino and Benevento.

In particular in Irpinia the snow has already reached 10 centimeters, especially in Alta Irpinia and in Ariano Irpino.

Warning in Sardinia for sub-zero temperatures


The passage of the cold perturbation "Burian" makes its effects felt in Sardinia, where temperatures have dropped by as much as 10 degrees, reaching 7 degrees in the north of the island and, according to forecasts, may drop below zero .

Some snowfalls are expected on the highest peaks such as on Gennargentu.

And together with the rains, frost could create problems on mountain roads with the formation of ice.

For this reason, the regional civil protection has extended the ordinary criticality alert on the island until the early hours of Tuesday 16 February.

The areas concerned are those of the central-northern and western basins.

The northern and eastern coasts of the island, on the other hand, will be affected by storm winds from the north / north-east and the seas will be rough or very rough with waves up to 4-5 meters. 



Yellow alert in Sicily, strong winds and storm surges


The Sicilian Regional Civil Protection has issued a yellow alert for adverse weather conditions valid until midnight tomorrow.
