Stuttgart (AP) - Bundesliga soccer club VfB Stuttgart has set its general meeting for March 28th against the will of President Claus Vogt.

On that Sunday, the meeting held online is to begin at 1 p.m., as the Swabians announced on Friday evening.

«When making the resolution, Dr.

Bernd Gaiser and Rainer Mutschler achieved a majority vote », it said on the part of VfB.

Gaiser and Mutschler are members of the executive committee.

President Vogt had a separate announcement published at the same time, in which he emphasized that he “regretted” the new date at the end of March.

Originally March 18 was planned, but Vogt wanted a much later date.

"This is not the wish of a large number of the members, not even of over 140 official fan clubs who publicly spoke out against a digital general meeting in March," Vogt clarified.

The 51-year-old himself had campaigned for a (face-to-face) meeting at a later date, as he made clear again on Friday.

The alternatives were September 5th or a date in May, June or July - before the new Bundesliga season.

"However, I was overruled by my two members of the executive committee," Vogt admitted frankly.

An open power struggle had broken out at the Bundesliga club in recent weeks.

CEO Thomas Hitzlsperger had first announced that he would run for the presidential post against Vogt, but then withdrew.

"I do this out of responsibility towards our association and my employees," explained the 38-year-old.

«We need rest again in the club.

With my decision, I now want to do my part. "

The messages from Friday evening did not sound like calm.

Vogt did not even bother to gloss over the now fixed date for the meeting.

The fan committee and members of the club's advisory board would have liked an event at a later date.

"For this reason, as a representative of the members' interests, I spoke out against this digital event on March 28, 2021," wrote Vogt.

The VfB announced that the invitations "and comprehensive information" should be sent in due time at the beginning of March.
