Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The Corona software "Sormas" is to be introduced across the board in the health authorities in Saarland by the end of March.

The state chancellery announced on Friday evening after a conversation between the heads of the state government and district administrators that the state and the districts would undertake a joint effort.

The federal and state governments had decided to introduce the new software across Germany in all health authorities by the end of February.

In Germany, as of February 7, 151 of the 376 health authorities were using “Sormas”.

According to the “Wirtschaftswoche” at the beginning of February, not a single office in Hamburg, Saxony and Saarland used the system that is supposed to facilitate the exchange between the authorities in the fight against the pandemic.

"Sormas" (Surveillance, Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System) has proven itself in digitized disease surveillance and outbreak management in Africa.

The health authorities should be able to identify and track contacts of people infected with corona more efficiently.

According to the announcement, Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) said that especially against the background of the mutations, it was important to trace the contacts even faster and more seamlessly, and to better clarify the development of infections.

"People rightly expect us to jointly exhaust all possibilities to get the pandemic under control."

Economics Minister Anke Rehlinger (SPD) said the situation was still very serious and that the health authorities had to be further strengthened.

"And we must all not be negligent in adhering to the measures to combat pandemics."
