Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Tests instead of baptism will be the name of the game in the Johanneskirche in Stuttgart.

The Protestant church has been transformed into a commercial corona rapid test center since Friday and at least until further notice.

The rapid tests are now taken at the height of the font.

"The laboratory evaluation then takes place between the altar and the organ," said the Evangelical Church in Stuttgart.

This does not stop traditional church operations, because currently no services can be celebrated in the building due to heating and ventilation regulations, as the local dean Elke Dangelmaier-Vinçon explained in the run-up to the tests.

The church wants to help ensure that interpersonal contacts are possible without the risk of infection, she said.

"The church can be experienced as a church."

It was agreed with the doctors that the Easter candle burns as a sign of hope and resurrection during the test times.

An unusual setting that, in the opinion of the organizing Schnelltest Süd GmbH (Frickenhausen), is very suitable: “High ceilings, a large entrance and a side door as an exit, little protection against infection.

It couldn't be more optimal, ”said the doctor Frank Mürdel shortly before the first test customer of the dpa.

The tests are free with a referral from the doctor, an instruction from the health department or a warning from the Corona app.

For all others, a rapid test costs 39 euros, according to the organizer Corona Schnelltest Süd GmbH, a PCR test an additional 60 euros and an antibody rapid test 49 EUR.

The test result is available after 15-20 minutes.
