Halle (dpa / sa) - The permanent temperatures below zero degrees make the construction industry in Saxony-Anhalt to create.

Work on many construction sites has to be stopped, said a spokesman for the Saxony-Anhalt construction industry association on Friday.

Dampness and frost damage could lead to problems on winter construction sites.

"If the temperatures go below three to five degrees plus, the binding of concrete is no longer so easy, for example," said Giso Töpfer, General Manager of the association.

There are processes like those used in Scandinavia, but these are significantly more expensive.

In the past few years the winters were sometimes so mild that it was possible to build for the most part continuously.

"For the first time in ten years, we have severe restrictions over such a long period of time," said Töpfer.
