Magdeburg (AP) - Christian Titz is the new coach of the third division soccer club 1. FC Magdeburg.

The club announced this on Friday evening.

The former Hamburger SV coach succeeds Thomas Hoßmang, who resigned from his position at the penultimate table on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old signed a contract until the end of the season.

Titz looked after HSV from March to October 2018 in 18 games in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga.

Most recently he was under contract with the regional league club Rot-Weiß Essen from July 2019 to June 2020.

Titz will make his debut on the bench of 1. FC Magdeburg on Monday in the game at Türkgücü Munich.

«We are very happy that we managed to win Christian Titz for 1. FC Magdeburg within a few days.

With him we gave a new impetus and are now tackling the mission to stay up in the 3rd division together.

He has a lot of experience and has already worked in the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga.

It is now important to reach the team quickly and lead them into a more successful future, ”said FCM sports director Otmar Schork.
