Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said that their forces fired a ballistic missile towards the city of Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia targeting King Khalid Air Base, while the Saudi media announced that the missile was intercepted and destroyed.

Saree said - in a tweet on Twitter this evening, Thursday - that "a suitable ballistic missile has not been revealed yet," adding, "The hit was accurate."

"This targeting comes in response to the continued air and military escalation of the aggression forces and the continued siege on our country," he said.

Shortly before that statement, official Saudi media quoted the Saudi-Emirati coalition as saying that it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Yemeni Houthi group towards Khamis Mushait.

Earlier in the day, the coalition spokesman said that their forces had foiled an attack by a drone bomb that the Houthis launched towards the city itself.

Yesterday, the Houthis announced that they had carried out an attack on the airfields at Abha airport in southern Saudi Arabia with drones, while Saudi media quoted the coalition saying that the attack had led to a fire in a civilian plane and was brought under control.

These military developments coincide with efforts led by the administration of US President Joe Biden to find ways to stop the war in Yemen, especially after it announced its intention to remove the Houthi group from the US list of terrorist organizations.

Meanwhile, Houthi media reported that the Saudi-Emirati coalition carried out 25 raids on the Sarwah district in the Ma'rib governorate, northeast of Yemen.

The Houthi group has escalated its attack on Marib with rockets and missiles over the past days.
