Berlin (dpa) - After massive restrictions in long-distance and regional traffic of Deutsche Bahn due to the extreme weather, trains are rolling again in many places.

"Around 95 percent of the route network can be used again - but often with restrictions and sometimes long delays," said the federally owned company on Thursday.

As before, snow, icy overhead lines and temperatures of up to minus 26 degrees made the clearing and repair work difficult, it said.

"Currently there are still major regional restrictions in the Harz-Weser network and in Thuringia."

Thousands of employees are on duty around the clock, and snow removal forces have been deployed more than 22,000 times.

More than a dozen passenger trains have been provided in the stations.

In addition, around 2000 hotel and taxi vouchers had been issued by Thursday.

On the east-west connections there is now a limited but stable offer again.

"Also between north and south more trains are running again," said the train on Thursday morning.

"With the start of operations today, cross-border traffic to the Netherlands will also be resumed."

Nevertheless, there are still significant delays.

Train cancellations are also possible.
