Erfurt (dpa) - Thuringia's left state party and parliamentary group leader Susanne Hennig-Wellsow has called for free corona rapid tests for all citizens.

“According to the will of the federal government, anyone who wants to be tested should pay for the test out of their own pocket.

This makes infection protection a question of the purse, ”said Hennig-Wellsow of the German Press Agency on Thursday.

The background is a planned ordinance by Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), according to which corona rapid tests are to be sold to private individuals in pharmacies in the future.

So far, the rapid antigen tests were only allowed to be given to doctors, medical or care institutions and educational institutions.

Hennig-Wellsow said people on low incomes will not be able to afford the tests.

In their view, this is socially unjust and “counterproductive for containing the pandemic”.

"The federal government can finance free rapid tests for everyone and it should do it immediately," emphasized the 43-year-old.

The election is planned for a decentralized party congress in a good two weeks.
