The background is the electricity shortage that has arisen in some parts of the country.

- It is absolutely necessary as we see that we will need much more electricity in the future, not less.

It is needed for jobs in industry, for climate change and to secure sustainable electricity prices for households, says Ebba Busch.

New reactors

At the same time, the question arises as to how the policy should drive through the construction of new nuclear power reactors.

Today, six nuclear power reactors are in use in Sweden.

A couple of years ago, Vattenfall decided to close Ringhals 1 and 2 prematurely on commercial grounds.

These are now closed and under decommissioning.

Wants to reward emission-free types of energy

Ebba Busch still believes that it is possible to push through new nuclear power projects through clear signals from the policy that nuclear power should remain:

- We must ensure that we reward energy types that are emission-free, delivery-safe and that can deliver a lot of electricity.

If we can get an equalization of the conditions for the type of energy where we, as today, not only reward wind power, there will be good conditions for nuclear power in the future.

And above all, it is important that the policy now signals that nuclear power is the basis of Swedish energy supply, says Ebba Busch.
