  • After seventeen days of hunger strike, the two teachers from Lucie Aubrac college in Givors ended their movement on Thursday.

  • Supported by a large group, they mobilized in January to obtain REP + status for their establishment located near Lyon, after several attacks on teachers.

  • They obtained some commitments from the rectorate.

But not enough according to the collective which announces to continue the movement.

“Our fight is legitimate.

Our commitment is fair.

However, we have understood that the ministry fully assumes to let two civil servants in the service of

the State endanger their health ”.

It is in these terms that Pierre and Leïla, two teachers from the Lucie Aubrac college in Givors announced on Thursday that they would end their hunger strike that began on January 25.

A 17-day mobilization, supported by a large collective, intended to obtain the classification of their establishment located near Lyon, in REP +, after several attacks on teachers.

Additional human resources

Since the beginning of the movement, the rectorate of Lyon has received a delegation of mobilized teachers and is committed to deploying more resources.

The strikers, who lost a lot of kilos in the battle and spent all their nights at college, notably obtained a half-post of CPE (two full-time now), the hiring of an additional education assistant.

A half-post of school psychologist has been created for the schools of the network and a half-post for highly disruptive students.

They also received a commitment that a class would be open as soon as the threshold of 25 students reached in 6th and 26 in cycle 4.

“The resources allocated to us by the rectorate will certainly be useful, but they remain insufficient to deal with the difficulties we are encountering.

We are aware that additional resources would unfortunately be taken

from other establishments, which is unacceptable, ”the professors indicated on Thursday, determined to organize other non-violent actions to obtain the REP + label.

Other actions to come

"We will remain extremely attentive to the respect of the commitments made by the institution," adds the group, whose anger crystallized in January after further attacks on teachers.

Eight have been registered in recent months against professors.

Beyond security, the strikers demanded additional resources, which they felt were essential to offer quality education and peaceful learning conditions to their students.

“We want Givors to count.

We want our students to matter.

They are the children of France.

Our students are treasures.

Our students have the right to equal opportunities ”, recalled this Thursday the mobilized personnel, supported by a large part of the families.

For the rest, a “dead network” day is already scheduled for Thursday, March 18.
