Erfurt / Suhl / Gera / Frankfurt / Main (dpa / th) - This year, florists are skeptical of the business that is otherwise important for the industry on Valentine's Day on Sunday.

Normally, it can be assumed that Valentine's Day will cover a decisive share of sales in the industry, according to a dpa request from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) South Thuringia.

After all, flowers are a popular gift on this day.

This year, however, florists could only generate sales through their own commitment.

The corona rules in lockdown only allowed flower shops in Thuringia to offer pick-up services on order by phone or in the online shop.

"That turns out to be the only alternative to generating sales," says the IHK.

According to the managing director of the Fachverband Deutscher Floristen Landesverband Hessen-Thüringen (FDF), Ulrike Linn, the ordering option is only used cautiously.

She hopes that with Valentine's Day in mind, customers will make more use of ordering bouquets from local shops.
