Benjamin Pavard on Thursday offered Bayern Munich an extraordinary Grand Slam of six consecutive titles in less than a year, scoring the only goal in the World Club final in Qatar against the Monterrey Tigers (1-0).

The Germans joined in history FC Barcelona in 2009, the only team before them to have won the same year cup, championship and national supercup, Champions League, European supercup and Club World Cup.

"We made history, we have our sextuplet, it's huge," said Robert Lewandowski at DAZN.

Faced with Mexicans who defended with abnegation but did not close the game, the European champions had to be patient.

They were delivered by a goal from their French world champion Pavard (1-0, 59th).

The 24-year-old defender picked up on his own against an empty goal a ball addressed by Lewandowski, winner of an aerial duel against the Tigers goalkeeper.

In the first period, Joshua Kimmich had believed to give the advantage to his people (18th), but the referee logically canceled the goal after consulting the video, for an offside by Robert Lewandowski which had hampered the keeper.

Without complexes, the Tigers tried in vain to get their claws out against, under the impetus of their striker André-Pierre Gignac, who very often won in midfield to recover the balls and build the game.

Among the records of this extraordinary Bayern Munich, coach Hansi Flick has established one that is likely to last a very long time: appointed coach in November 2019 after the dismissal of Niko Kovac, he has just won six titles in only 68 matches on the bench, that is to say more titles than defeats (five) since taking office.

For Bayern, this is the second victory after 2013 in this competition in its modern form.

And the eighth in a row for a European team.

The last two days before the final had however brought bad news, with the packages of two major players: Wednesday, the central defender Jérôme Boateng was authorized to return to Germany, following the death of his ex-girlfriend, a 25-year-old supermodel found dead in her Berlin apartment.

And hours later, forward Thomas Müller, a major piece of the squad, learned his last coronavirus PCR test was positive.

Immediately placed in solitary confinement, he obviously did not play against the Tigers.

Flick had to reshape his team, replacing Boateng with Lucas Hernandez in the central hinge, and by aligning together three professional wingers: Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman in their natural positions, and Serge Gnabry against employment, in an axial role of number 10 playmaker which he acquitted himself correctly.
