Würzburg / Sydney (dpa / lby) - After the as yet unexplained killing of a 25-year-old from the Würzburg district in Australia 16 years ago, the court hearing planned for February has been canceled.

A new date has not yet been set, said the court in Lismore in the Australian state of New South Wales.

The authorities in Australia and Germany initially did not want to comment on the reasons for the postponement.

The "Main-Post" reported first.

Further research is necessary, it said in the newspaper, citing investigators in Lower Franconia.

The kindergarten teacher from the Würzburg district was traveling to Australia in 2005 with her boyfriend and two other acquaintances from Germany.

The young woman suddenly disappeared from a campsite in Lismore in northeast New South in February 2005.

A few days later, her body was found nearby under palm fronds.

Investigations revealed that the woman was a victim of a crime.

At a first hearing in 2007, the judiciary classified the three fellow travelers of the then 25-year-old woman as suspects, including her boyfriend at the time.

However, since investigators were unable to provide enough evidence, no charges were brought.

The case attracted renewed attention in October last year after the authorities suspended one million Australian dollars, the equivalent of around 600,000 euros, for clues about the young woman's death.
