Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - Saarland must continue to prepare for massive restrictions in the corona pandemic.

The lockdown will be extended until March 7th, announced the Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans after consultations with his counterparts and Chancellor Angela Merkel (both CDU) on Wednesday.

Despite the falling number of infections, there is agreement that, especially in view of the more dangerous corona mutants, "the time has not come for relaxation, but that we have to wait," said Hans.

However, there are first relief for children: From February 22nd, the primary schools in Saarland will open with alternating lessons, announced Hans.

"This is an important signal to families with smaller children."

The step is accompanied by a strict hygiene concept and extensive testing.

In addition, hairdressers are likely to open again on March 1st, subject to strict hygiene requirements.

The next easing is possible with a stable seven-day incidence of a maximum of 35 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants: These then include the opening of retail stores with a limit of one customer per 20 square meters, the opening of museums and body-friendly service providers, said the head of government .

“It is important to me not to arouse false hopes, not to raise exaggerated expectations in people, because we don't know exactly how the variants and mutations of the virus spread.

That forces us to be absolutely careful, ”emphasized Hans.

A working group from the federal and state governments will develop an opening strategy for further relaxation in the areas of gastronomy, culture and sport.

Public life in Saarland has been drastically reduced since mid-December.
