“Any attempts by Russia to become independent, to defend its right to an independent foreign policy, to defend international law are encountering more and more fierce resistance from those of our Western colleagues who want to make us obedient, by and large,” RIA Novosti Lavrov quotes.

According to him, the West wants "for Russia to be, by and large, a convenient territory for promoting their own interests in the security, economic, and socio-political spheres."

“We see these attempts become more and more violent every day,” he added.

Earlier, Lavrov said that following his visit to Moscow, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell published a number of comments in his blog, one of which portrays the situation as if "Russia is rapidly moving away from Europe."

At the same time, the Russian minister noted that at the talks with Borrell in Moscow, he "just spoke about the importance of building Russia-EU relations on a systematic basis."

Lavrov also recalled that in 2014 the European Union itself brought down the architecture of multifaceted ties with Russia that had been painstakingly created over the years.
