February 10, 2021 The lockdown in Germany could be extended until 7, or even until 14 March.

Bild writes it online, leaking the discussion underway in view of today's summit between the state and regions.

According to the tabloid, the hypothesis of easing the anti Covid measures from March 1 would no longer be on the table.

Germany has been in strict lockdown since December 16.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel meets today with the 16 Laender premieres to discuss how to advance the anti-Covid strategy.

According to a draft document cited by the Dpa, it is likely that the restrictive measures currently in force until February 14 will be extended, perhaps until March.

Since November Germany has adopted measures to contain the pandemic which have led to the closure of schools, nurseries and commercial establishments considered non-essential.

Some states have already come up with plans for a gradual reopening of schools starting next week.

Yesterday, the Chancellor declared herself opposed to any relaxation of the restrictions until March 1, according to sources familiar with the contents of a meeting of the Christian Democratic Union, the CDU.

During the meeting Merkel stressed how essential it is to bring down the rate of infections before reopening, to prevent the British variant of the Coronavirus from making the situation uncontrollable.
