Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) - people need hats, scarfs and thick jackets - for polar bears, however, the current sharp frost is no problem at all.

The polar bears Lara and Bill, for example, enjoyed the snow in the Gelsenkirchen Zoo “Zoom Erlebniswelt” at temperatures of minus six degrees on Wednesday afternoon.

Most of the other animals are inside because of the cold, said a zoo spokeswoman.

The lions had less of a cold problem, but the moat in front of their enclosure was frozen over.

Therefore, for security reasons, they are not allowed out.

There were unusual ice experiences in the outdoor enclosure for meerkats, who come from Africa and are used to significantly higher temperatures.

A heat lamp was set up for them.
