Berlin (dpa / bb) - Some electric buses operated by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) have difficulties with the winter endurance test.
E-buses failed 23 times on the lines on Monday, as the “Berliner Morgenpost” reported (Wednesday).
Because of the cold, the battery wasn't charged enough.
A BVG spokeswoman said the failures corresponded to 1.7 percent of the electric bus performance.
The buses have been replaced by other electric vehicles or diesel buses in which passengers could continue their journey.
“Because of this, nobody froze their feet off,” she emphasized.
The buses should actually travel 130 kilometers at minus ten degrees.
A solution is being discussed with the manufacturer.
Like combustion engines, electric buses also consume more energy on cold days because the heating also runs on the battery.
According to the BVG, the problems occurred with vehicles that were charged by plug at the depots.
There are therefore no problems with models that charge at terminal stops.
