Minister of Justice Kamikawa deliberates on legislation to resolve issues related to child rearing after parents have divorced, such as non-payment of child support and the lack of regular “visiting exchanges” between parents and children living apart. We consulted with the association to review the related systems.

Regarding the raising of children after their parents have divorced, there are problems such as the poverty of mother-child households due to non-payment of child support, the problem that "visiting exchanges" where parents and children living apart meet regularly are not carried out, and either the father or the mother. Various issues have been pointed out, such as the ideal form of "single custody" that only one can have.

At the general meeting of the Legislative Council held on the 10th, Minister of Justice Kamikawa said, "Women's social advancement and father's involvement in childcare have diversified the way of childcare and public awareness, and we aim for the best interests of children. From the perspective, I would like to ask you to consider the situation in line with the actual situation. "

The Legislative Council has arranged for appropriate child support and "visiting exchanges" and whether or not to introduce "joint custody" in which both the father and mother have custody of the child. It is expected that there will be a wide range of discussions about the ideal way of raising children.

In addition, as there are cases where grandchildren are adopted for the purpose of increasing the "tax exemption limit" of inheritance tax, the purpose etc. will be added to the adoption system for minors, and the property built by the couple will be divided in half at the time of divorce. It is expected that discussions will be held on the provision of rules by law.
