Wismar / Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The left-wing parliamentary group has called on the state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to work hard to maintain all MV Werften locations.

It is unacceptable that the Stralsund location may be up for grabs, said the political group's spokesman for economic policy, Henning Foerster, in a statement published in Schwerin on Tuesday.

A spokesman for the IG Metall Coast trade union assumed that the company would inform about the next steps on Tuesday.

The broadcaster NDR 1 Radio MV reported that 1200 of the approximately 3100 employees may go.

Above all, the shipyard in Stralsund is on the brink.

A shipyard spokesman declined to comment on the dpa request and referred to an explanation that would be made “at the appropriate time”.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Schwerin, the shipyards, with the support of the state government, succeeded in coming under the protective umbrella of the federal economic stabilization fund in November and thereby received a loan of 193 million euros in the first step.

This should cover the completion of the ship “Endeavor 1” and other operating costs by the end of March.

Now it is about how it can go on afterwards.

This has been discussed intensively with the federal government in recent weeks.

"It is important that the company can continue to implement the projects that have already been launched and that are ongoing and that a continuation perspective can be established," said Economics Minister Harry Glawe (CDU).

MV Werften belongs to the Asian conglomerate Genting Hong Kong.

Genting took over MV Werften in 2016 to build cruise ships for its own needs.
