Less than a year ago, Germany appeared to many Europeans as a paradise.

The Germans enjoyed the spring sun on long walks, while Spaniards, Italians and French were only allowed to leave their homes to go shopping or to take a short walk around their house.

The rest of the world was amazed at the level of trust and freedom that the citizens of this country were allowed to enjoy.

The picture has now completely changed. The Federal Republic of Germany is now the European country in which the relatively low incidence of infection and relatively hard lockdown are the largest.
