Munich (dpa / lby) - A local alliance of refugee helpers as well as church, political and trade union organizations has criticized the resumption of deportation flights to Afghanistan as inhuman and unchristian.

Most Afghans lived below the poverty line and had no access to health services, although the country, which has been ravaged by longstanding civil wars, has been severely affected by the corona pandemic, according to a statement by the Bavarian Refugee Council in Munich on Wednesday.

The regional bishop and council chairman of the Evangelical Church in Germany, Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, together with the president of the Diakonisches Werk Bayern, Michael Bammessel, demanded a suspension of the deportations a few days ago and criticized them as “irresponsible”.

Caritas Munich and the Paritätische Wohlfahrtsverband Oberbayern joined the opposition, as did the Munich city council parties SPD, Greens and Left, the Verdi union and the district youth association.
