China News Agency, Jakarta, February 9th (Reporter Lin Yongchuan) At a video press conference held in Jakarta on the 9th, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian comprehensively reviewed the relationship between China and Indonesia in 2020 and said that China will promote the comprehensive development of the two countries in 2021. The strategic partnership has achieved greater development.

Xiao Qian said that China-Indonesia relations have gone through an extraordinary year in 2020.

With the personal care and promotion of the two heads of state, the governments and peoples of the two countries have watched and helped each other and overcome the difficulties together. The China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership has developed against the trend, showing "four highlights":

One is to reach a new height of political mutual trust.

The two countries celebrated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two countries’ first and second phone conversations and exchanged congratulatory messages on the day of the establishment of diplomatic relations, reaching important consensus on unity in fighting the epidemic and developing cooperation.

The high-level exchanges between the two countries have been close and mutual trust has continued to deepen.

The second is to compose a new chapter of mutual assistance.

In the face of the sudden COVID-19 pandemic, the governments and peoples of the two countries worked together and helped each other, fully demonstrating the traditional friendship of “connected destiny and shared weal and woe”.

The companies of the two countries successfully carried out Phase III clinical trials of the new crown vaccine and actively promoted vaccine procurement, research and development and joint production cooperation, and China-Indonesia anti-epidemic cooperation has entered a new stage.

The third is to open up new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation.

China continues to maintain its position as Indonesia's largest trading partner and second largest source of investment.

In 2020, bilateral trade volume was 78.37 billion U.S. dollars, and China’s direct investment in Indonesia was 1.83 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 72.9% year-on-year.

The construction of the “Belt and Road” landmark project of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail is progressing steadily, and a series of major node goals have been achieved successively, and the “regional integrated economic corridor” has achieved early gains.

The two countries have established a "fast channel" for personnel exchanges, maintained the stability and smooth flow of the industrial chain and supply chain, and jointly cultivated new drivers of economic growth such as digital economy, biopharmaceuticals, and technological poverty alleviation.

The fourth is to defend the new achievements of multilateralism.

The two countries have maintained close collaboration on deepening international anti-epidemic cooperation and global governance reform under the multilateral frameworks of the United Nations, WHO, and the G20. The two countries and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region have formally signed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement ( RCEP) to jointly promote China-ASEAN cooperation, maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea, resist unilateralism and trade bullying, and jointly defend the legitimate rights and international order of developing countries.

Xiao Qian said that the relationship between the two countries in 2021 will stand at a new starting point and usher in new opportunities.

China is willing to work with Indonesia to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, enhance strategic mutual trust between the two countries, and promote greater development of China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership with the fight against the epidemic and economic recovery as the main line.
