American Ted Ligety, two-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion, announced on Tuesday that he would compete in the last race of his career at 36 on February 19 on the giant of the Alpine Skiing Worlds in Cortina d'Ampezzo (Italy) .

“Next week, the World Championships giant Cortina will be my last race. I gave everything for this sport and I am grateful for what it gave me in return (...) I have accomplished all my childhood dreams, with Olympic, World, and World Cup gold medals, but it's time to stay with my family, "he wrote on his Instagram account.

In his 17-year career, the American has forged an impressive track record with Olympic gold in combined in 2006 then in giant in 2014, five world titles (three in giant, one in combined, one in super-G), five small giant globes and 25 World Cup victories, including 24 in giant.

"What I'm most proud of are surely (my victories at the) World Championships in Schladming when I won three titles (super-G, giant, combined)", explains in a statement published by his federation this skier at unique style praised by his peers.
