An upsurge in shootings

For several years, certain poor districts of Nîmes have been plagued by an upsurge in settling of scores, often against the backdrop of drug trafficking.

In February 2020, residents of the Pissevin district appealed to the authorities for help after a shooting that left three people injured.

At the beginning, the shootings "did not cause a victim, then more and more serious injuries, and we all had the feeling that at one time or another, we would have died," said the prosecutor. February 5.

According to the magistrate, fifteen settlements resulted in eight deaths in 2020 in Nîmes, and already three in 2021, including a 17-year-old teenager.

"These assassinations are directly linked to narcobanditism and are settling of scores in the context of either turf wars or trade conflicts," he added.
