The decision to adopt the detailed plan for Vitahall was hammered through after a requested vote in the municipal council in Sölvesborg on Monday evening.

And it was only a margin of one vote that separated the parties.

- The hope is now that we can move forward with the development of new nice residential areas, says Kith Mårtensson, group leader for the Moderates to SVT Nyheter Blekinge after the decision.

Controversial plans

The plans to cut down parts of the Vitahall beech forest close to the city have aroused strong feelings and resistance.

Ahead of Monday's meeting of the City Council, it was clear that the ruling parties Sweden Democrats, Moderates and Christian Democrats were behind the construction - which corresponds to a majority of seats.

In normal cases, the municipality of Sölvesborg usually broadcasts the sound directly from their municipal councils, but during Monday evening, technical problems stopped the broadcast.

The municipality announces this on its website.
