Berlin (dpa / bb) - The state executive of the Berlin SPD has described statements by a Juso member on Twitter as unacceptable.

Twitter users had accused the Juso functionary of glorifying violence.

The Berlin Jusos themselves spoke on Sunday in connection with several tweets from a member of the extended state executive of the SPD youth organization of an “intolerable derailment”.

The Berlin SPD announced on Monday evening on request: "There is an agreement in the state executive that the person concerned will not run for office in the coming internal party election period."

The statement goes on to say: «A party order procedure could have been initiated.

The person concerned anticipated a possible outcome of such a procedure and has resigned from all his functions in the party. "

The Berlin Jusos had declared on Sunday that any form of violence against people was not compatible with their basic values.

"Calls for this in no way reflect our association and its positions."

The author of the controversial tweets apologized on Sunday on Facebook for his "stupid and thoughtless statements" and announced that he would resign all functions in the Jusos and in the SPD.

As a student, the previous member of the extended Juso state board also belongs to the Academic Senate of Humboldt University.

A spokesman for the university announced on Monday evening about possible consequences: “It is up to the Academic Senate (AS) to decide.

Without wanting to anticipate this elected body of the Humboldt University, I assume that the AS will deal with the topic at its next meeting. "

The University Presidium condemns verbal insults, defamatory statements and comments or tweets that incite violence in the strongest possible terms.

"Freedom of expression finds its limit where it comes to insulting, defamatory, other people in their dignity injurious statements and claims."
