08 February 2021 A greeting to the six-year-old daughter who has just been accompanied and left at school and while on the electric scooter she was heading towards the city center, after 300 meters, her life was cut short following an impact with a truck.

The tragedy happened in Genoa at 9 am.

Federica Picasso, a 35-year-old employee, married with children, was crushed by the wheels of an articulated lorry in the Marassi district of Genoa.

The dynamics of the accident are not clear: the impact occurred after a fall or after a collision.

The agents of the Accident Section of the Local Police investigate exactly how the dramatic event took place and have collected the testimony of a pensioner.

On the spot, in addition to the agents, the 118 health workers intervened but for the mother there was nothing more to do.

Her husband also arrived in via Monticelli, supported by family members.

Two hypotheses are being

examined by municipal agents

The woman could have fallen and the truck would have hit her, or she could have been thrown to the ground after a collision with the heavy vehicle.

The tragedy took place at the intersection of Corso Sardegna and Via Monticelli.

The woman wore a helmet.

At the moment the most accredited hypothesis by the agents of the Accident Section of the Municipal Police, led by the manager Federica De Lorenzi, is that of a fatality.

The woman, a great football fan and Genoa fan, would have lost control of the vehicle and would have ended up under the wheels of the articulated vehicle.

However, it is not excluded that the truck may have involuntarily gripped the young woman.

The driver of

the truck

speaks

"I heard a noise and then I saw the scooter coming out from under the wheels from the left mirror" said the 46-year-old truck driver, who in the next few hours will be investigated for manslaughter.

A due deed explain by the Prosecutor's Office to allow all the investigations.

The driver of the truck tested negative for alcohol and drugs.

The man in shock remained seated in the passenger compartment of the truck in the imminence of the fact.

The new tragedy immediately sparked a debate on the danger and the rules to be adopted.

The Chief Prosecutor of Genoa Francesco Cozzi, who has been at the forefront of road safety for years, stressed the importance of "more adequate laws".

Codacons and Avisl also remarked that "the current regulatory provisions relating to scooters do not appear to be suitable for guaranteeing road safety".

First citizen of Genoa, Marco Bucci: "Mayors ask for rules"

"We asked this afternoon together with the other mayors of the Metropolitan Cities to have a regulation for electric scooters as soon as possible because the city needs it".

This was stated by the mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci after the fatal accident this morning in the Marassi district.

"We are extremely worried about what happened, but we have little chance to improve the situation", highlighted the

mayor

of Genoa, recalling the sentence with which the TAR of Florence annulled the order of the

mayor Dario Nardella

to impose the mandatory helmet to users of electric scooters.

"Unfortunately - he concluded - it is not the mayor's job to regulate traffic".

On the same day in Genoa, another accident with a scooter

A few hours later, again in Genoa but in the Di Negro district, a boy of 30 who was also on the scooter fell to the ground hitting his head: his conditions are not serious.

It would fall by itself.
