China News Service, February 9th. According to Kyodo News, a number of sources in Japan-US relations revealed that the Japanese government has initiated coordination and plans to suspend Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi's visit to the United States, which was originally intended to be realized this month.

Although the US has proposed a mid-term visit, the Biden administration, which prioritizes the new crown response, expressed difficulty.

Regarding Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga’s active realization of his early visit to the United States and the face-to-face summit meeting with US President Biden, the coordination of the schedule also faced difficulties.

According to reports, during the first phone call between Motegi and US Secretary of State Blinken at the end of January, they reached agreement on the policy of Motegi's early visit to the United States for talks.

In view of the parliamentary deliberation schedule of the 2021 budget, the Japanese side proposed to use the long holiday that began on the 11th to realize the foreign minister's visit to the United States.

However, the United States has always maintained a cautious attitude in receiving foreign dignitaries in consideration of its domestic epidemic prevention measures and its vigilance against the influx of mutated new coronaviruses.

A relevant person from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that "if the domestic epidemic situation in the United States changes, there may be direct talks," and they intend to continue to explore for an early realization of the talks.

The Biden administration will hold a summit meeting on April 22 to focus on climate change countermeasures as a priority issue.

Yoshihide Suga was also invited at the telephone summit at the end of January, but the meeting is expected to be held online.
