Ulm (dpa / lsw) - While checking a small van on Autobahn 8 near Ulm, customs officers discovered 37,800 smuggled cigarettes.
An X-ray team noticed irregularities in the cargo when scanning the vehicle, customs announced on Monday.
When the officers opened the Sprinter on Monday, they found the 189 cartons of cigarettes between boxes of textiles.
The 47-year-old driver of the van is now being investigated on suspicion of tax evasion.
The tax damage amounts to the information after 6600 euros.
